Locksmith work in Downtown, Penn Quarter & the K Street Corridor
Downtown is offices, hotels, restaurants and a growing number of apartments, packed into some of the most security-conscious blocks in the country. Most of our downtown calls are commercial: a tenant who needs the suite door rekeyed after staff changes, a restaurant on 7th Street that cannot open the back door at 6 a.m., a retail manager whose key snapped in a storefront cylinder.
The apartments that have gone up around Mount Vernon Square, Penn Quarter and Franklin Square add the usual residential calls: unit lockouts, lost keys, smart locks that need resetting. Because almost every building downtown has a front desk, the visit usually starts in the lobby, so tell the dispatcher the building name and whether the guard needs your guest list.
This page covers Penn Quarter, Chinatown, Federal Triangle, Franklin Square and the K Street corridor (20005), Farragut and the blocks west of the White House (20006), plus downtown post-office-box ZIPs.
Calls that come in from 20004
Office suite rekeying after staff turnover
Rekeying the suite and file-room cylinders is usually cheaper than replacing hardware, and can be done after hours.
Master key systems for small offices
One key for the manager, separate keys for staff areas. Planned with you and documented so you know who holds what.
Panic bars and exit devices
Repairs to push bars and closers on rear and stair doors, where the building allows tenant work.
Restaurant and bar lockouts
Early deliveries and late closings both produce lockouts. Commercial lockouts follow the same price list as homes.
Hotel-guest car lockouts
Rental cars and personal cars in downtown garages, including keys locked in the trunk.
Local notes
Federal buildings, agencies and post-office-box ZIP codes that used to have their own pages on this site are now covered here. Federal property has its own security and contractors, so we only work for private tenants and residents downtown.
Downtown parking is the main constraint. Loading docks, garages and building security desks all help; give the dispatcher whatever access details your building provides, and the locksmith will meet you where you say.
Former ZIP pages now covered here: 20005, 20006, 20013.

02 · FAQ
20004 locksmith questions
Can you work in my office building after hours?
Usually, if building management approves it. Ask the property manager for any contractor sign-in rules and share them when you book.
Do you need a certificate of insurance to enter my building?
Many downtown buildings ask for one. Mention it when you call so the dispatcher can check with the locksmith before the visit.
Can you open a locked filing cabinet or desk?
Yes, most office furniture locks can be opened and rekeyed or replaced.
Can you change the lock on a retail shutter?
Shutter padlocks and some built-in shutter locks can be replaced. Motorised shutters are serviced by the shutter company.
Do you handle office safes?
Yes, opening and changing combinations on many office safes. Drilling is a last resort and the price list notes a drilled safe may not be usable.
