Locksmith work in Southwest Waterfront & the Wharf
Southwest is the smallest quadrant of the city and one of the most unusual. Much of it was rebuilt in the 1950s and 60s, so instead of Victorian rowhouses there are modernist apartment towers, co-op buildings and townhouse clusters, many of them still owned or run by co-op boards with firm rules about who can change a lock. Along the water, the Wharf and Buzzard Point have brought new apartments, hotels, restaurants and offices.
That means a lot of building-managed hardware. Our role is usually the door you are responsible for: your unit, your townhouse, your shop. Waterfront traffic also brings car lockouts in the Wharf garages and around the soccer stadium on match days.
This page covers Southwest Waterfront, the Wharf, L'Enfant Plaza, Buzzard Point and the Southwest residential blocks around Arena Stage.

Local notes
Fort Lesley J. McNair (20319) is a military post with its own access rules; we do not work on post without arranged access.
Maine Avenue and the Wharf get busy in the evenings and on weekends; the older Southwest streets near Arena Stage are calmer. Tell the dispatcher whether the locksmith should go to a building entrance, a townhouse door or a garage.

20024 locksmith questions
My co-op says I cannot change my lock. What can I do?
Ask the board whether rekeying within their system is allowed. Many boards keep a master key and allow rekeying through an approved locksmith.
Can you open a car in a garage with a height limit?
Yes. The locksmith arrives in a normal vehicle; tell the dispatcher about any height limit.
Do you work on boats at the marina?
Ask when you call. Cabin and locker locks can sometimes be opened, but marine hardware varies.
Can you rekey a townhouse in a Southwest cluster?
Yes, with any approval your association requires. Front and patio doors can share one key.
Do you replace locks on storage lockers in my building?
Usually, if the building allows it; many use standard padlocks or cam locks.
Can you help a hotel guest at the Wharf who is locked out of a car?
Yes. Have the rental agreement or registration ready, and tell the dispatcher which garage or street the car is on.
